Japan Council for Sustainable Development (JCSD) - former

Mission Statement

The JCSD aimed at facilitating dialogue among its members concerning the issues of sustainable development. As an advisory body to the government, it is mandated to follow up on the progress of measures taken under the Basic Environment Plan each year. The Council called for equal participation of multi-stakeholders including governmental organizations, private sector, and civil society organizations.

Composition and Membership

The JCSD was established in 1996, in response to Agenda 21’s recommendations.

The Council consisted of representatives from the government, industry and NGOs.
