National Commission for Future Generations (2001-2006) (NCFG) - former

Mission Statement

The NCFG was an inter-parliamentary body to audit legislation on its impacts for future generations, with a focus on the creation of “a dimension of the future that would be included in primary and secondary legislation”.

The World Futures Council argues that the NCFG had an informal veto power over law-making.


Role and Functions

  • advising on government policy or making policy recommendations, including NSDS; and
  • stakeholder engagement.

Composition and Membership

The NCFG was created in 2001 and shut down in 2006.
