National Council for Economic and Social Policy (Consejo Nacional de Política Económica y Social) (CONPES) (Comprised of ‘CONPES Economicos’ and ‘CONPES Sociales’)
The Council is concerned with all aspects of national economic and social development. It coordinates and directs the agencies responsible for economic and social policy in government, through the study and approval of reports and documents on general policy development, which are presented in session.
Composition and Membership
The National Planning Department serves as the Executive Secretariat for CONPES, and so is the body responsible for coordinating and submit all documents to be discussed in session.
CONPES works under the direction of the President of the Republic and is composed of permanent members entitled to voice and vote, plus ‘guests and other attendees’, including the Vice President, all Ministers, the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic, the Director of National Planning and the Director of Administrative Department of Science, Technology and Innovation - Colciencias.
