Composition and Membership

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Sustainable Development was established in January 2008 to formulate a National Sustainable Development Strategy for Singapore.

The committee is co-chaired by the Minister for National Development Mr. Mah Bow Tan, and the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim. The members are: the Minister for Finance Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the Minister for Transport Mr. Raymond Lim, and the Senior Minister of State for Trade & Industry Mr. S. Iswaran.

 

Mission Statement

Sustainable Singapore has a ‘four-pronged strategy: to boost resource efficiency, enhance the urban environment, build capabilities, and foster community action.’

 

Role and Functions

  • advising on government policy or making policy recommendations, including NSD

 

Recent Activities

The Committee’s main activity is to develop a Sustainable Blueprint, which comprises of strategies and initiatives that Singapore needs to achieve economic growth and sustainable development. The Sustainable Blueprint initiatives and projects are separated into six areas: live – a sustainable way of life, commute – cleaner, greener and more convenient travel, play – a city of gardens and water, work – resource-efficient industries for sustainable growth, capacity development – a living lab for innovations, and community – acting together for a Sustainable Singapore.
