Global Network publishes report on scaling up successful NCSD practices

The Global Network for NCSDs has published a report entitled: ‘The governance of scaling up successful sustainability practices: How can National Councils for Sustainable Development organise the wider use of national and regional examples?.’ The paper was co-authored by Jack Cornforth, Stakeholder Forum; Ingeborg Niestroy, PublicStrategy for Sustainable Development; and Derek Osborn Stakeholder Forum.

Incheon Communiqué emphasises need for strengthening sustainable development planning and implementation capacities at the national level

The first meeting of the UN Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) took place in Incheon, Republic of Korea on 14-16 November 2012. The meeting brought together representatives and experts from governments, United Nations system, civil society and academic institutions, and culminated in the publication on the Incheon Communiqué.

What is the German Sustainability Code?

As part of its mandate to devise and test policy options to further sustainable development at the national level, in 2011 the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE) recommended that the Federal Government implement a mechanism known as the German Sustainability Code (GSC). After a period of extensive consultations - without involvement of the state - and a successful trail, the GSC was fully implemented in October 2011.

EU ENVIRONMENT COUNCIL REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO EUROPEAN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

On 25^th October 2012, the European Union Environment Council reaffirmed its commitment to an ambitious follow up to Rio+20. In particular, it will attempt to achieve this through reviewing the European Sustainable Development Strategy (EU SDS) by 2014 at the latest, to provide an updated EU-wide policy framework to deliver sustainable development.

Commencement of initial phase to further develop Global Network of NCSDs

Further to consultations during the Rio+20 process Stakeholder Forum, in partnership with the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE) and courtesy to funds made available by Finland and Germany (GIZ), is pleased to announce the commencement of an initial phase to further develop a Global Network, aiming to strengthen NCSDs and enable them to more effectively meet their aims and obligations around engendering sustainable development at the domestic level.

International peer review to focus on Germany’s sustainable development policy

The Federal Government has officially requested the drawing up of a second international peer review of its sustainable development policy. In keeping with the 2012 progress report on the National Sustainable Development Strategy, the respective invitations have been issued to internationally recognized experts.
